FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Visual to Expand Sentences for Speech Therapy”

by Amy Haselden
Pre-Kindergarten - 4th Grade

I use this carrier phrase to assist children who have difficulty creating a sentence that contains adjectives. This visual aid helps students progress from a short sentence such as “I see a dog” to “I see a large dog that is brown” causing their expressive language to expand. I place the visual cue in a clear page protector and put it in the student’s speech folder. When we review picture cards or Boardmaker symbols they may be working on, the student follows each word with his or her finger and uses the picture symbols as cues to add the size and color to the sentence. This activity has been very successful and this card can be faded out eventually. Enjoy!! Please leave feedback!!

FREE MISC. LESSON - “40 Interactive Web Sites for Virtual Field Trips & Tours”

by Mister Mitchell's Education Resources
Kindergarten - 12th Grade

After receiving more than 12,000 downloads of this resource, I decided to update and expand the list from 25 sites to 40 sites! Enjoy!

Virtual tours and field trips provide students with opportunities they may not get to experience otherwise.

Where else can you "take a trip" to see Sistine Chapel, the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, or the African grasslands -- all in one day?

These tools may also challenge students to think critically about the places they visit. For example, a virtual trip to Pompeii requires students to consider the quality of life in an ancient city. A trip to Chichen Itza will allow them to appreciate and question the Mayas design decisions. Simply, virtual field trips can spark your students' interest and motivate their learning in a specific content area.

The following websites are worth considering for virtual field trips. Some are built as all-inclusive virtual trips with text and audio; others provide only imagery which can be adapted to fit the needs of a lesson.

If you like this packet, please consider the following educational resources available in my store:

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Pride and Prejudice: Fun Characterization and Textual Evidence Activity”

by Carla McLeod
9th - 12th Grade

This is a fun, Common Core-aligned activity to help your high school students more deeply understand and appreciate the characters and their relationships within Pride and Prejudice. Students analyze main and supporting characters based on a “Date, Mate, Relate or Hate” scale. Is the character marriage material, for example, or more of a dating prospect, friend, or potential enemy? Students then provide their reasoning and cite evidence from the novel to support their opinion. The activity can be used early in the novel, and, if desired, revisited later for comparison.

The activity is aligned to Common Core Standards—asking students to analyze characters as well cite textual evidence to support their opinions. It includes an explanation of characterization, both direct and indirect.

Sure to start a lively discussion, this is an activity that cultivates fun controversy in the classroom!

Awesome Opposites Cards set includes 12 pairs of opposite cards. On each card you will find a word, as well as some form of visual representation of the word (an image, or some manipulation of the text.)

These cards can be used as a 1- or 2-player memory game. I have also included an opposites recording page. Blank cards are included for you and/or your kids to add more opposite pairs.

You will also find directions and blank pages for a differentiated Awesome Opposites Little Dictionary activity. On each page, kids should write a word from the opposite pair and draw a picture to represent that word. For those kids who are ready, they may write a sentence instead of just a word.

FREE MATH LESSON - “Math Mania Weekly Math Review”

by SunnyDays
1st - 5th Grade

This is a great way to introduce, review and keep skills fresh in the mind of your students. You choose a number of the week and the students use that number to complete 12 essential skills with it each week. I like to use the number of days we have been in school or the date of a student's birthday or holiday.

Each week my students complete the Math Mania activity which is attached to this Notebook file in PDF form. Just open the Notebook file, and look for the paper clip under the gallery. You will find the printable sheet for the students there.

I use this file to introduce the activity to my students as we complete it together the first few weeks of school.
Eventually, my students complete these activities
on their own and I use this file to correct it with
them and address misconceptions.

Skills addressed include
-numbers in word form and expanded form
-odd and even
-rounding
-place value
-fact families
-money
-time
-adding and subtracting
