FREE MATH LESSON - “Problem Trail: Algebraic Fractions”

by Activities by Jill
8th - 11th Grade

Problem trails are great because they get students up and moving around the room. They also encourage students to check their work carefully since an incorrect answer will eventually send them back to a problem they have already solved. Successfully completing a problem trail requires students who tend to work too quickly to slow down a bit. The activity consists of 8 problems that can be completed individually or in pairs. This problem trail is appropriate for a 40-50 minute class period.

Objective: Students will simplify, multiply, and divide algebraic fractions. Identifying restrictions and factoring required.

If you like this, check out my Multiplying & Dividing Algebraic Fractions Activity Cards! They work well with the problem trail!

FREE MATH LESSON - “Multiplication Mystery Pictures: Pictures, Pirates, Products”

by Talented in Third
2nd - 5th Grade

Pirate Multiplication Puzzles
There are FIVE different multiplication pictures each, ready for your kids to color as they solve each multiplication equation. Pictures vary in difficulty, ranging in difficulty from a small anchor that only requires two multiplication equation solutions to an almost full page scene with a pirate ship that requires over 50 solutions. Each is included with a key that details what color is needed for each product, both a colored in key and a key that students can color.

*****************************************************
You can use these as assessments, in centers, as independent work, etc. Simply print the pages out and distribute to students as desired. This allows for differentiation as you can choose the easier pictures for struggling students and the more challenging pictures for students who need more of a challenge. For your students needing additional practice, start at the anchor picture, then the flag, followed by the treasure chest. If your students are already proficient with their multiplication facts/equations, start them at the scene with the parrot or the scene with the pirate ship!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Check out my preview for a look at several of the pictures!

FREE MATH LESSON - “Addition Strategy Worksheet TAP IT OUT! ~Freebie~”

by Meg's Crayons
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

Do you still have some students that struggle with basic addition? Then this product may be what you are looking for!

TAP IT OUT is an addition strategy I developed in my classroom. I have found it to help those students who still rely heavily on their fingers to help them add or subtract. TAP IT OUT consists of the student tapping a visual "TAP" sign while saying the larger number from an addition problem. Once they have said and tapped the larger number they are able to represent the smaller number using their fingers or by using mental math! It has been a huge life-saver for my kiddos!

This freebie is a taste of what will be offered in my "TAP IT OUT!" product which will include "TAP" spots for your students along with many other activities to do with your students! I would love to hear your feedback on this product!

FREE MATH LESSON - “Free - Number Order”

by JWDesigns
Pre-Kindergarten - 1st Grade

FREE - Monkey in the Middle Number Sequencing Activity / Printable Pre-K - 1st

This was one of the early items in my store, and one that people have really enjoyed. I recently updated it for 2014. It is a cute set of free printables. It is a number sequencing activity for Pre-k, Kindergarten,1st grade (review) and homeschoolers. It is CCSS aligned and will reinforce counting, and number sense development, while practicing number order. The worksheets are tiered, so you can first work with the numbers 1-10, and then move up to numbers 11-19, when your students are ready. The object of the activity is to look at a set of numbers, with number(s) missing, determine what the missing number(s) are, and write or paste the correct number where the monkey graphic is... hence why I called it Monkey in the Middle. I hope your students have fun with these worksheets.

I also enjoy creating clip art, as well as teaching products. This freebie is a good example of both, as I designed both the monkey graphics, and the printable activities. I hope it will give you an idea of my work and you'll be back to see some of my other paid and free products.

NOTE: This portion of this item is included in a series of Kindergarten math centers and games that are aligned with Common Core. These are available as individual units, or bundles by Common Core domains.

If you are interested in the rest of the Kindergarten Math series, just click the link: Kindergarten Math Series!

Thank you for your interest and please remember to come back and give a rating!

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Character Traits Graphic Organizer Common Core Language Acquisition”

by James Whitaker
1st - 8th Grade

Materials/Resources Preface:

This graphic organizer is pretty straightforward. Students should focus on one character from literature or film, or even a real life person, and begin to brainstorm specific personality character traits that are relevant to their character. The graphic provides space for 4 characters traits. This is a simple, variation of one of my other sale products (Character Trait Graphic Organizer Text Common Core Bulletin Board). Nevertheless, this graphic can be used as a stepping stone for below level or ESL/ELL students. This varied form only allows for gathering four traits without space to analyze or provide examples.

You can also use the graphic organizer for a basic bulletin board display or illustrate the writing process by coupling the organizer with a more thorough writing piece on literary characters and their dynamic qualities. Don’t forget to have students provide (or you provide for them) a picture of the character or person of focus. Visuals will enhance your bulletin display, of course. Students can also decorate the organizers! Please cut on the dotted lines for a better display presentation.

Again you can use this activity to explore the traits, attributes, or qualities of:

< Literary Characters
< Film Characters
< Entertainers and Idols
< Everyday People
< Family Members

Please feel free to ask any questions—I will definitely respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion. Please, check out my other products and resources. Hopefully they will help strengthen your lessons, help your students learn, and make your life easier. Thank you and enjoy!

Common Core Anchor Standards:
Writing: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.L.6 Acquire and use accurately a range of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when encountering an unknown term important to comprehension or expression
