Ireland Country Research Project

Grades 2-4

Students complete a variety of activities as they research the geography and culture of Ireland. The activities are glued into a separate notebook (not provided), creating a wonderful artifact to share and keep. 

Activities include: 
Maps: (world, continent, country) labeling maps; creating a compass rose and a map key
Country stats: recording the population, area, products, and climate
Flag: coloring a sample flag; writing a description of what the colors and symbols mean
Currency: identifying and coloring a sample coin and bill
Language: learning common words/phrases
Food: planning a menu for a day
Sports: naming sports/activities that are popular
Animals: identifying, then classifying by group
Clothing: illustrating (or constructing) traditional clothing on paper dolls
Famous People: identifying individuals and their achievement(s)
Holidays: describing the traditions of several holidays 
Culminating Activity Choices

Are you looking for a way to add interest to your Black History Month unit? Do you want to add more activities to your learning stations? Are you searching for a project which integrates learning and technology? Download my Black History Month Trading Cards package! Included is a set of 54 trading cards highlighting famous persons, places, events and court cases in Black History. These trading cards can be printed on card stock, laminated, and trimmed to produce a set of playing cards. The deck is divided into fours suits of thirteen with two jokers, allowing students to learn while playing any standard card game. Also included are the documents "Educational Trading Card Games" and "Creating Educational Trading Cards". The first document contains three original study games for classes and small groups. The second document gives teachers and students the step by step instructions required to create their own cards using an online resource. Math and Car Bingo

Math & Car Bingo is a game you can play in the classroom to reinforce addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root and exponent skills. Instead of drawing ping pong balls, the teacher randomly draws clue cards which provide equations for the students to solve. The answers are the numbers to cross off the bingo cards. And when school is out and the family is on vacation you can use the same materials to play license plate bingo and avoid the “Are We There Yet” syndrome.   Great fun! My students really enjoyed!
