FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Free Back to School Beginning of the Year Caricature Icebreaker Activity”

by Tracee Orman
8th - 12th Grade

Create a Caricature, South-Park Style: Most high school students are familiar with South Park or at least the style of cartoon character from the popular Comedy Central show. This online activity uses a website for students to create original caricatures of themselves using that drawing style.

This is a perfect activity for laptop/iPad 1:1 schools. However, I do include a planning worksheet and printable template that allows students to draw their own figure if using the internet is not possible. Teacher & student directions are also included.

*Go Paperless: This activity has a link to a Google Docs template that you can share with your students!*

Please note: Maturity is a factor with this exercise since the figures are nude to begin with. Use your own discretion for what is appropriate with your class.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Student Council Elections”

by Teaching Ideas For Those Who Love Teaching
5th - 7th Grade

Student Council elections can be fun, but can also lead to conflict in the classroom. By incorporating Student Council elections into your Social Studies curriculum, you can engage the entire class. This allows you to focus on building community with the class as a whole, versus rushing through a time that is full of great teachable moments.

I have included part of my Student Council curriculum in this lesson. If you enjoy it, please take a look at my full lesson Building Community in Your Class, Through a Student Council Election.
