Learning piles of roots and their definitions is a great accomplishment, but have you ever wanted more than just rote memorization and listing words?
The CCSS standards regarding Greek and Latin affixes ask us to “USE common, grade- appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word”(L.7.4b, caps mine). So if you’re ready to APPLY these roots and start putting them in context, try this FREE activity!
Originally from my Bundle of 10 Greek & Latin Root Activities, this collaborative activity draws students into critical thinking by creating an idea for an invention and coming up with a root-based NAME for their new product.
This activity only took us one class period to complete; it can function as review, challenge, SUB PLANS, or just sparking student interest in the topic. It is designed to be FUN for students so they can be assessed without vocabulary practice feeling like work!
This 2-page activity is ready to print and copy! It includes clear directions, a rubric, and plenty of space for students to write on.
