3rd - 6th Grade
Having trouble with students who are showing a lack of respect to classroom supplies? Here are two activities to help bring a personal perspective and help them bridge the gap between "getting" and "buying".
There are two activities provided.
* Lesson one had the students doing chores to buy their own school supplies. They will have to interview parents to see how much they will (hypothetically) pay them for certain types of chores and about how long it would take to finish each type of chore. Then they will receive a list of school supplies. They must calculate which chores and how long it will take to earn the money to buy their school supplies.
* Lesson Two: The students will interview parents for a guess on how much their parents make per hour at their job. Then they will choose 3-5 items they want their parents to buy them. The students will have to calculate how many hours their parents would have to work to provide that item for them.
Each lesson has a self-reflection writing activity at the end.
