FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Reading Comprehension Through Talk”

Kindergarten - 1st Grade


A series of drawing activities to help beginning readers with reader responses. The activities are as follows:
- draw the plot and then retell the story to a friend
- draw the good and the bad characters and explain your drawing to a friend
- draw two characters who are similar and explain to a friend why they are alike
- draw the setting of the story and explain to a friend who is in the setting and what the character is doing there
- find the names of the author and illustrator of a book and copy them. Draw what you would do if you were an author or illustrator.
- explain to a friend what you like in the story and what you don't like
