SIMPLE ONE-TIME PREP
- Print the pages
- Slide the pages into plastic sheet protectors
- Clip the sheet protectors into a 3-ring binder or folder
- Provide each student with their Number of the Day Binder and a whiteboard marker (if you prefer to use these as a center, just make a few binders instead of a class set).

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY BINDER ROUTINE
- Teacher selects a new number each day
- Students complete multiple pages in their binder (3-4 pages is recommended for a 10-15 minute warm-up)
- After students complete their assigned pages, they tap their heads silently to signal they are done
- Teacher stops by to check the binder pages
- Teacher signals students to tuck their binder away after work has been checked
- Teacher notes mentally, or in writing which students need follow-up instruction related to their place value practice
- Teacher follows up on misconceptions and mistakes as needed during the math block
