This activity can be used to strengthen student understanding of the organisms within ecological succession.
There are 8 scenarios provided in the full set and 1 scenario provided in this free sample.. There are 7 different organism role cards provided as well. There are many different ways to run this activity based on how many kids are in your class. You can have them draw a role card and debate how their organism would be affected. You can have them work in partners or small groups to discuss how each role would be affected.

* Handout where students write about each role and how it would be impacted for Forest Fire Scenario. Students will decide who would be most negatively impacted and who would have best chance to survive.
*Handout for Forest Fire where student's main focus is only on who would most be negatively impacted and who had best chance to survive with much more space to write about the "why"
