FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Sketchnotes Prewriting Activity”

by Spark Creativity
7th - 10th Grade

Want to help your students brainstorm ideas for their papers in a way that is downright fun? Wait till you see their eyes light up when you introduce sketchnotes. For visual learners especially, this is a powerful way for them to gather their thoughts before writing a paper.

As they capture the big ideas of the book by creating notes that combine visual and written elements, they will discover arguments and ideas they didn't know they had.

Included in this activity, you'll find an example of sketchnotes that you can show students if you wish, a handout explaining how to create sketchnotes for a text, and a handout guiding students through pulling arguments and key points out of their sketchnotes so they are ready to write a paper.
