Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check

By: Laurie Fyke @ Primarily LearningKindergarten – Grade 1

Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check

Amazing Sight Word Practice happens with Look SAY Cover Write Check!
Learn to many of the spell sight words often found in programs like Jolly Phonics (Jolly Learning Ltd.)  with Independent Word Work at a center or in a small group.  The children will learn to read and spell words with irregular spellings that have a look and say approach for learning. They will have the opportunity to practice using these words in sentences.
Included in the 90 words: high frequency words that can be “tricky” due to multiple spellings (homophones) or spellings that have not yet been studied.

A great resource for reading teachers, Reading Specialists, Title 1 Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Home-school, Classroom Teachers  and Parents. Centre or Small Group Activity

I found my students really enjoyed using file folder cards to check and cross-check their work as they learned to correctly spell words with irregular spellings … on their own!

Thank you for visiting my store!

Have a great day!

  In PRINT Letters

Sight Words! Use these Desk Charts to help spell a "tricky" word. It's a great supplemental resource for any phonics program...including Jolly Phonics!  A great student resource for any reading and writing program!

Desk Charts for 90 Sight Words
Two easy to reference tricky word desk charts that can be used to practice word identification for reading or to help the child spell the word(s) correctly for writing.

There is a chart of 45 high-frequency words that are not easy to decode… and a chart of 90 high-frequency words.   Both charts are in printed in alphabetical order and in a sequenced order.

Print the full page, which includes both charts, on cover-stock and then cut it in half. Optional: Print the half page chart on cover-stock and fold it in half so that it sits at an angle for the child to reference as a personal word wall.

BONUS! Each chart is also included as a full page chart!

Thank you for visiting my store!

Have a great day!

My Personal Dictionary: 90 High Frequency Sight Words

By: Laurie Fyke @ Primarily Learning
Preschool – Grade 2

Check it out! What a GREAT word work resource for teachers using Jolly Phonics, or any other reading program!

This dictionary contains:
90 high frequency sight words, (the Jolly Phonics “tricky words’ are bold),
11 color words (choose grey or gray),
        number words to 12, and
84 high frequency nouns with graphics to represent them.

Format and Use:
There are two 14 page personal dictionaries included.
One dictionary is in full color (p. 3-16).
One dictionary has black and white graphics (p. 17-30).
The student is encouraged to add words to the dictionary that he/she finds difficult to spell or read.
Idea: Ask the students to highlight, or put a mark beside, each word that they can spell/read independently…including the ones they have added.
        Includes Common Core Standards K-3.
Print double-sided…flip on the short edge.

Notes:
• A few of the words can be sounded out, (e.g. a, sister, us) but some children may need this reference.
• Most of the words use the alternate spellings that must be taught. (e.g. to, me, go, came, back, little)
• Some of the word are confusing because they are homophones. (e.g. for, four; to two too)
• Some of the words use the schwa sound. (e.g. mother)
• Some of the words are simply tricky to read or spell! (e.g. does, saw)

* These words do not follow the rules and must be learned with a  ”look and say” approach.

Have fun learning!

Laurie @
