- Nouns and adjectives with 2 syllables usually have the stress on the first syllable.
- 3-syllable words ending in 'er' or 'ly' usually have the stress on the first syllable.
- Words ending in 'ic', 'sion' and 'tion' usually have the stress on the second-to-last syllable.
- Words ending in 'ty', 'cy' and 'ry' usually have the stress on the syllable third-from-the-end
- Words that are both a noun and verb, the noun has the stress on the first and the verb has the stress on the second syllable.
