Sound Cards - Easily identify, and use vowels, digraphs, and consonants.

By: Laurie Fyke @ Primarily Learning
Preschool – Grade 2

The vowels. consonants and digraphs are separated so that they may be printed on different colors of paper for easy identification. Use them to play games, sort, match and identify letters and sounds!  Create words!  Check them out now!

Sound Cards
Use these consonant, vowel and digraph cards:
•           as flash cards to check the child’s letter-sound recognition.
•           to play match-up games.
•           as home study cards once the sounds have been taught.
•           to create new words on a pocket chart or flat surface (reading).
•           to identify sounds in words (writing).
•           to assess letter-sound knowledge.

Some Suggestions:
Double-side the vowel and consonant cards so that lowercase letters are on one side and upper case letters are on the other side.  Copy the vowels on one color of cover stock, the consonants on a second color and the digraphs are on a third color.

Pair up the short and long vowel cards… /a, e, i, o, u/  and /ai, ee, ie, oa, ue/.  Talk about how it doesn’t take any longer to say an /a/ than an /ai/ …but… if you put your palms together and then move them apart as you say the sound, your hands will stop sooner for the short vowel sounds…the long vowels sounds must have two letters!

A fantastic  word work resource for teachers using Jolly Phonics,  Reading Specialists, Title 1 Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Classroom Teachers,  Homeschool and Parents.
Have fun learning!

CVCe Ocean Write the Room FREEBIE

I am excited to share my newest FREE resource with you!

CVCe Ocean Write the Room FREEBIE

Learning in Motion with Friends From the Ocean! Get your students up and engaged in practicing CVCe words with this FREE Around the Room activity!  This literacy center is perfect for the end of the year when your little learners are antsy and ready for something different.  You may want to make it even more enticing by hiding the cards around the classroom for them to find!

Print, laminate, and cut out the cards. Make copies of the recording pages.
Hang the cards in various places around the room. Give learners a clipboard, a recording page, and a pencil. Learners go around the room looking for the picture cards. When they find a card, they write the word for the picture on the card in the correct space on their recording page.

FREE - English Language Arts - Creating a Board Game Evaluation

Are you looking for a fun new way to evaluate literature?  This might help.

This rubric was created to help students understand exactly what is expected of them for this evaluation. It is also an excellent tool to assess students' progress and final product.

This self assessment rubric is part of bundle as well.

Self-evaluation grids are a great way to guide students in their evaluations. Students will know exactly what is expected of them and will be made responsible for their own success. This package can also easily be changed to be used as peer-evaluations.

Scrambled Sentences (May)

Scrambled Sentences (May)

This product is NOW AVAILABLE in a Scrambled Sentences Bundle. Purchasing the Bundle provides an 11% SAVINGS rather than purchasing each individual pack.

Great for morning work, homework, or center time. This May pack includes 54 pages. There are 27 May related pictures for students to unscramble the sentence at the bottom of each page by cutting the words out and gluing in the correct order to tell about the picture. There are 2 pages of each picture making the pack 54 pages. The first page with each picture has the “unscramble the sentence” activity and then students are to TRACE the sentence that matches the unscrambled sentence in the box. The second page with each picture has the “unscramble the sentence” activity, but then there is a blank box for students to WRITE the unscrambled sentence on their own (no tracing like the first page for each picture).

A black and white picture is included at the top of each page for students to color. This activity requires students to find the word with the capital letter to place first in the sentence and to find the last word by looking for the ending punctuation. Then students have to arrange the rest of the words in order to make sense and to match the picture at the top. A variety of sentence types and word choices are included to provide for differentiation.

Higher students could also turn to the back of their paper and add more sentences to create a story about the picture.

All of the graphics relate to insects and plants (planting).

The PREVEIW shows every page included.

The 27 sentences included are:

The ants walk in a line.
Bees can sting you!
The butterfly is pretty!
The caterpillar is eating.
The dragonfly is fast!
I see a firefly.
The fly flew away.
The grasshopper is green.
Do you see the ladybugs?
Do you like spiders?
The moth likes the light.
This is a praying mantis.
We will plant the seeds.
She likes the flowers.
This is my garden bag.
The butterfly likes the flowers.
My gloves are blue.
The plant is growing.
The girl is planting flowers.
I see a caterpillar.
We have some pink flowers.
Where is the watering can?
They have a wheelbarrow.
Here are garden tools.
We plant seeds in the dirt.
It is a pretty day.
We can pick flowers.

I hope your students have fun with these scrambled sentences!
