Language Arts Lesson - "Making Connections Unit"

by Bethany Baptiste
3rd-5th grade

Watching readers transition from decoding text to comprehending it in a meaningful way is magical! Teaching young readers strategies to bring text to life will make learning to read
more fun and motivating.

This Making Connections Unit uses engaging activities that guide readers to master the reading strategy of making connections to what they read. Throughout the unit, students will independently practice the strategy and then apply it to their own reading.

This unit includes:
  • 4 'Make Connections' Posters (Overview, Text to Self, Text to Text, and Text to World)
  • Connections Sort Practice Worksheet
  • Make Meaningful Connections Poster
  • 2 Reading Passages with Student Recording Sheet to Make Meaningful Connections
  • Connection Memory Match Game
  • 2 Pages of Post-It Templates to Practice Making Connections in Independent Reading
  • 4 Student Posters to Display Making Connections Practice
  • 2-Sided Make Connections Bookmarks with Reminders and Recording Notes Space

I hope you enjoy this unit and others from this series you can find in my store!
