Language Arts - "Dystopian Novels: No Prep Literature Circle Lesson Plans"
By Mary Pat Mahoney
Grades 6 - 8
Thanks to current movies and books, dystopian literature is popular! Capitalize on your students’ interest in this genre by using it for literature circles or whole-class literature instruction.
You'll be able to use this unit multiple times since it can be applied to any dystopian novel. Activities provide for independent, paired, and group work along with whole-class discussion.
For this unit, each book is divided into four sections. The same clip art is used for each section, so you and your students can keep pages organized. Each section includes:
• a reading summary
• bookmark for vocabulary collection and reading focus ideas
• mini lesson information for the teacher – or you may choose to copy it for students
• mini lesson blank outline for students to use to record notes on your mini lesson
• individual activity
• group activity
Also included:
daily lesson plans
CCSS for each lesson
Pre and post reading surveys
Extension activities
End of book discussion questions
Essay prompt with prewriting graphic organizers and revising activities
Essay rubric
Essential Question List
Just add students and their book choices!
