Everyone loves reading folktales, but writing them is a little more challenging for many students. Writing folktales, or narrative writing, aligns with the Common Core Standards. This resource is suitable for grades 1-3, depending upon the needs and skill levels of your students.
Hesitant writers often need a template or structure to help them organize a story. This is a simple and not-so-very-old tale, but it has the "ring" of a folktale to help kids get started. A page of word lists, nouns, adjectives and verbs are included to allow students to choose their own characters and twists and turns in the story. It is very much like a cloze writing activity.
In this resource, you will find:
-2 fill-in-the-blank story pages
-1 word bank page for nouns, verbs, adjectives-2 pages to organize writing, and brainstorm
-Lined stationery/writing paper
I think your young readers and writers will enjoy this activity. Publishing and sharing stories after the writing is even more exciting.
Happy Teaching!
